How To Clean a Window Air Conditioner?

A standard window air conditioning unit is easily cleaned without having to call in a professional to do it for you – all you will need it a selection of screw drivers, some old rags, a vacuum cleaner, a spray detergent or de-greaser and an old toilet brush or bottle brush and of course a little patience.

- Depending on if you have a disposable or reusable filter, then you either need to purchase a new one, or clean the old one. Cleaning a reusable one is done by cleaning it with the de-greaser in very hot water in which you can soak it for around fifteen minutes – then hang it up to dry while getting onto the rest of the unit.

- Make sure when taking the various parts of the unit apart that you keep a ‘screw map’ or at least separate the different types of screws so that you will not face difficulties when putting them back together.

- The inner parts of an air conditioner are quite sensitive, so you want to remove all dust inside very gently, and then spray the unit with the de-greaser (following the instructions on the de-greaser can)

- Then after the required waiting period, remove the remaining dirt with a rag, and where there are no electrical components then warm water wan also be used to remove the excess dirt.

- You will also need to vacuum all the air-conditioner’s surfaces and, especially those of the grille and the underside of the actual cover.

-It is also important to drain out any water that is left in the base of the unit, and allow it all to dry out completely for a couple of hours before re-assembly.

Those are the steps to take so you will now no longer be thinking, “how do I clean my air conditioner?”!

If you can do this on a yearly basis, then not only will your machine work reliably all year, but it will continue to do so for many years to come
