Memorize anything quickly and efficiently. Impress your friends with your awesome memory. In this article, it will mention the two main things that determine a person’s memory. Also discuss one of many, very easy and effective memory techniques that you can use right now.

Visualization

Visualization is a natural ability of everyone, but just like any other natural ability, some are better at it than others. There are a few reasons for this ranging from genetics to the people we grow up around to the food we eat. Whatever the reason, just know that at whatever level you are at you can improve drastically with some practice. Really it is a very important ability. The better you can visualize, generally the more intelligent you will be. All little observation and study will show you that all of the more intelligent people have a very vivid imagination. The reason is that it is the foundation of thought.

Focus

To memorize anything efficiently you have to able to switch your attention to a task, then, switch it to another. You control your attention much like a watch hand. Just point the watch hand in right direction. Like visualisation, this can be greatly improved with practice. Improving your ability to focus would have a positive effect that trickles into ALL parts of your life.

Exercises

There are many exercises that effectively improve a person’s ability to focus and visualize. Most people are short on time and they want to make the most practical gains in the fastest possible time. Remember we are just interested in getting a great memory. That is the most practical self-improvement you can make. The technique below shows this.

Chain Method

This is the most fundamental of mental operations. This is one of the most efficient ways to remember a list of items of any length. Here is your list: apples-bananas-ice cream-chicken-carrots-bell peppers-shaving cream-soap-toothbrush-tennis balls. 10 items should take about 1 minute for the beginner. (6 seconds for each item) here is how this works:

Imagine: an apple big and detailed in your imagination. It should be 3rd and colorful. See as many details as you can. Do you have it? – Now put the banana on the top of the apple. The two images should be touching each other, and you should see the details of both images together. If you focus on these tow images ONLY for about 6 seconds it is enough. Now focus on the banana and the apple should disappear. Imagine an ice-cream cone with ice-cream in it and have it pierce through the banana. Remember you must imaging the two images as details as possible. Hold it for about 6 seconds, and focus your attention on the ice-cream cone to make the banana disappear, and imagine a chicken sitting on tope of the ice-cream cone. Continue in this way through for each item. Again this should not take more than a minute.

Important! For this to work there are a few simple guideline below:

  1. there can ONLY be 2 images in your imagination at once. You have to focus your imagination on just the 2 images for a few seconds to connect them.
  2. images have to as large as possible. They must fill up your imagination.
  3. images have to be as detailed as possible.

Remembering: It is very easy to recall them. Give you the first item: Apple. Visualize the apple like you did, and a banana should appear right on top of it. Focus on the banana and the apple should disappear so that you see the ice-cream cone piercing the banana. Focus on the cone and the chicken should appear, etc.,etc.

Difficulties: there are a few of you that may have had some difficulties with this. Maybe it took you a long time, or you could not see the images clearly, or the images where difficult to control and hard to hold in your mind. This would have caused some problems with recollection. These difficulties pass very quickly with just a little practice. Just remember ‘practice makes perfect’. The 3 guidelines above have to be followed.
If you find it difficult, it is because your brain has to get stronger. So, don’t worry about it. Remember the 2 factors affecting memory, FOCUS and VISUALISATION. It is just a lack in either one or both of those that makes it difficult. Invest in yourself: your most valuable possession is your brain. Memory is everything. With a good memory you can become anything you want. Any profession or skill that you may need or want is made easy if you have a good memory. Learning becomes a joy, and excelling becomes a part of your life.
